Meet Our Birds!

NICODEMUS

Nicodemus is our Eurasian eagle owl, the second largest species of owl in the world! With his impressive size, beautiful markings, and sociable personality, he's always a crowd pleaser.  His large size is also very useful for scaring away gulls! One glance at him and they take off!

We raised Nicodemus as a baby, so he is considered an imprint and is very comfortable around people. As such, he is our most interactive raptor. He is comfortable being handled by just about anyone, kids included. Have you ever felt how soft an owl's feathers are? Now you can!

Enki

Enki is the newest Harris hawk to join our team and is currently our main bird for flight demos and hawk walks. He was raised in an educational setting before being transferred to another falconer to use in abatement. Unfortunately, they decided that Enki isn't "gamey" enough (meaning he doesn't have a strong prey drive) and prefers to hang out with people and do shows than to pursue wild birds. So he was then transferred to us so he could return to his favorite job: Flight demos! We're happy to have him on the team.

Shady

Shady is Spencer's twin brother. He share's Spencer's sassy attitude and strong work ethic, though he's a little more easy going than his high-strung brother. Shady loves chasing pigeons, but he's also willing to go toe to toe with crows, making him especially useful for scaring away large mobs of destructive roosting crows. He's an invaluable member to our abatement team and has recently shown his ability shine in public flight demos too! He's a jack of all trades kind of guy.

Spencer

Spencer is the first Harris hawk that we added to our team. He's known for his sassy no-nonsense attitude, but despite that, he's one of the best bird abatement hawks that we I have. He loves his job and nothing brings him more joy than chasing pigeons and sparrows. In addition to abatement, Spencer loves putting on a show in outdoor educational settings and filmwork. Flying low over peoples' heads is one of his favorite things to do!

Spencer can be seen in the LA Times and 60 second docs film!

Diamond girl

Diamond Girl is our beautiful 10 year old Peregrine falcon. She's a very special bird on our team as she was inherited when her original trainer (Lindsey's falconry sponsor and mentor) was no longer able to care for her. She loves to fly and puts on a fantastic lure stooping show that is always a pleasure to watch. She has become a treasured member of our abatement and educational team.

FlapJack

Flapjack came as a package deal with Diamond Girl since  they are a mated pair. When we got him, we noticed that he was missing his center two tail feathers, called his deck feathers, which play an important role in braking and steering during flight. As a result, Flapjack has a very difficult time braking and slowing down when flying at high speeds, which makes it a dangerous task for him! Instead of taking that risk, we have let him retire as an educational ambassador, which he is great at!

 Cricket

Cricket, aka "Noisy Cricket" is our newest addition, a colorful Aplomado falcon! As his name suggests, Cricket is noisy! Cricket is an imprint, meaning he was raised by people and sees us as parents, and what do baby birds do when they see parents? The scream for food! Because of his noise level, Cricket has been passed between several homes until he landed with us. We don't mind the noise, so he's now part of the team. Cricket is being trained mostly for abatement work but we hope to eventually incorporate him into education programs and flight demos too (for those brave enough to handle his vocal chords lol)
